Proposal for Obama: give Haiti the attention you give Afghanistan

I’m volunteering at a support center for the families of earthquake victims in Haiti today, and after some discussion with folks, I just thought to myself: why doesn’t President Obama send some of those Afghanistan resources to Haiti instead?

It’s simple: go where your services are most needed and desired. All that money [billions of dollars!] spent on making war in Afghanistan would be much better spent helping Haiti recover… and it would be a heck of a lot easier. The Afghanistan resistance is powerful and organized, and a lot of places there are not so friendly to American “help.” In Haiti, especially since the situation is still so fluid, there isn’t an organized resistance to overcome. At least not yet.

It would do a lot more for peace and stability, that’s for sure, to commit a “surge” to rebuilding Haiti. Obama could also surely define himself as more committed to peace and collaboration if he made a major move in this direction.

What do you think?

Strong agree with the proposal, very well written article. I think more people should take interst in reading this article. Thank you for support.

  2. too many people claim we need to be in Afghanistan because it’s the place where US integrity is most at risk. Sort of like Whack-a-Mole, many people in the USA are fond of squelching anti-Americanism whereever it pops up.
